Getting to know En Ceramics!
We first discovered En Ceramics on Instagram when we were searching for Singapore-based potters to join us for our Two-Day Clay event in June this year. What drew us to her tableware were her seemingly simple yet elegant forms, coupled with her lovely colour palettes that complemented her designs very well. After the pretty-much-successful event where she sold almost all her tableware, we contacted her to produce an exclusive collection and the rest is... history.
6 Zen Questions with Mossypotssy
Ever since we got local pottery brand Mossypotssy on board Eat & Sip, we have always held our breath whenever we await her next tableware drop off. Her lines of beautiful and well-made tableware have this mysterious oomph factor that makes us just want to know more about the brand and her pottery story. Here are the six questions we had for her!
Nine Quick Fire questions with Jenisse Lau
As usual, we were using our favourite potter-discovery app (aka Instagram) late last year when we stumbled upon local ceramicist Jenisse Lau's account. We got drawn to her miniature mugs series and got in touch with her. Here are nine questions we shot at her to get to know a bit more of her and her craft!
Examining crumpled porcelain with Hayden Youlley
Ceramics have long been traditionally thought of as a fragile and delicate medium because... well, they break. So when we first saw the paper series by Hayden Youlley, we were so pleasantly surprised. By recreating the texture of his products to mimic the appearance and feel of paper, he was somehow pushing the notion of ceramics as a delicate medium !
Pottery travels with Kira Ni
We first started following ceramicist Kira Ni on Instagram when she was in London, but since then she has migrated twice! What’s even more amazing is that Kira has managed to uproot and restart her pottery practice every single time while maintaining the quality of her products! Have we also mentioned that her products are strikingly attractive?
Talking marbled mugs with Terra & Ember
Despite being relatively new to the pottery scene, local brand Terra & Ember is making huge waves and is quickly growing in popularity. What began as a hobby and a distraction has now metamorphosed into a fledgling business!
Pouring liquid slip with LouiseM Studio
You know what they say, below every instagram-ed cake lies a beautiful handmade plate - in this case, one that was handmade by Louise Martiensen of LouiseM Studio. We got in touch with her to learn more about her and her craft.
Catching up with Omelet Trees Studio
Omelet Trees Studio is a local ceramic brand - made up of husband-and-wife duo, Nigel and Sarah - that has been going from strength to strength with their contemporary take on handcrafted tableware.
Carving out an interview with Carragh Amos
When we were looking for Singapore-based makers for our Open Studio 2019, we turned to Instagram to cast a wider net for possible collaborations. The wonderful algorithm led us to New Zealander Carragh Amos who had just shifted to Singapore a couple of months prior!
A peek into Sekar Puti’s life
When we were in Bali to catch some much needed sun and sea, we managed to sneak in a visit to ceramic artist Sekar Puti's quaint studio and caught up with her over some delicious Balinese coffee and instagram-worthy views.
Getting to know a Serial Kilner
Yup yup, we are loving that name too! The brand name, Serial Kilner, by itself is already sure to leave a dent in people’s memories but kid you not, Singaporean Gladys Wee, the lady behind the brand, is real serious about her craft.
Wonky Ummuramics
Ummu Nabilah got her first introduction to the amazing world of ceramics way back in secondary school. Interestingly, she disliked the medium then and had wanted nothing to do with it as she only wanted to paint. Her second brush with ceramics came in NAFA when she was introduced to wheel-throwing in a ceramics module.
Shining the spotlight on Omelet Trees Studio
Think of Singaporean contemporary potters and high chances are you would have thought of Omelet Trees Studio and their clean distinctive line of tableware. Our very first encounter with them was way back in 2017 at The Local People's art market under the West Coast viaduct (talk about unconventional spaces) where we just ogled at all their work.
Up close with Rachel Charge
When we first set eyes on these vulva bowls and cups (see below) on Instagram, we just knew we had to bring them onto Eat & Sip. To be honest, it wasn't hard to fall in love with the other products in her collection as well! We dm-ed Rachel, and a few months later headed down to Victoria, Australia to collect the products!
Handbuilding tableware with Anne Laure Harskamp
This time round, we got in touch with Anne Laure Harskamp to get to know her and her process a little bit more! In case you didn’t know, Anne is the talented maker behind the hand-painted series of tableware. We first met her at the Emu Plains Market when we were on a sourcing trip and Ly had that little sparkle in her eyes when she saw Anne's booth.
Behind the scenes with Matilda Chambers
Whenever we are hit by a bout of wanderlust (but can't jet off just yet), we do the next best thing - scroll through ceramicist Matilda Chamber's Instagram feed! Her aesthetically-pleasing feed of handmade tableware, mostly taken on her raw concrete studio floor has a tendency to automatically teleport us to the lush natural beauty of Australia.
Creating laughs with Sculpture in Design
Recently, we got in touch with Dima and Nadya Gurevich from Sculpture in Design Studio. They are the hands (and brains) behind those quirky and unique sculpture mugs, as well as the Lush tableware collection on our site. If you don't already know, they work with porcelain, which is known for being the most durable and highest quality of clay!
